Friends,
Yesterday I saw a short movie on YouTube. The name of the movie is "asl plz" , and the story of that short movie is somewhat like this.....
There are two characters into it, a boy and a teen age girl....Somehow they meet over internet and start chatting with each other, using their funky chat names...over the period of time their formal chat changes into romantic one.
After knowing that both of them are from the same city the boy started insisting to meet her and finally that girl also gives her consent for the meet. Hence they mutually decided for a meeting and the venue is a cabin of some cyber cafe.
Now a scene appears there on the screen where the girl is sitting inside the cabin waiting impatiently for the boy to come....After few moments the boy also appears into the cyber cafe, with a red rose in his hand and knocks the cabin door.....Slowly the door opens and the moment they see each other "they are simply shocked"......
"Yeah, shocked....because they happened to be own brother n sister"
Further movie goes into the flash back showing them living in the same house and sitting into their respective rooms they used to flirt with each other through internet....
Watching this climax scene even I was shocked too. It was like facing the truth rather bitter truth of our society and my idle mind was thinking that "where are we heading towards....?"
In fact, over the period of time, a big chunk of our youth have learnt to present themselves like what they are not actually and somehow they like to be identified with their funky chat names glittering on their computer screen.....
Don't you think that they as an individual are changing so fast in this ever changing technology supported environment that they are even on the verge of losing their own identity, which is really unfortunate.....!!!

PS : Try to watch this 15 mnts movie "here" before giving your views.

I have read/seen a similar thing two nights before and it has left my mind disturbed. I am not sure how this exactly happens but how could two people who live in the same roof not know each other. It obliges me to think of the many deceptions one could have infront of everybody else...
ReplyDeletelife is so hectic now that people may not have time for interacting face to face and that ends up in not knowing each other even when they live under same roof....and this is not good at all....
DeleteVery sad. The best we can do for our kids is to engage in activities with them - that way they would be less addicted to the virtual fantasies...
ReplyDeleteyes...this is what needed actually...spending more n more quality time with our kids.....
DeleteOh my comment comes with a second part because I watched the movie afterwards and got the whole picture and moral behind it... will share it later. Thanks Irfan.
ReplyDeleteAs promised:
DeleteI remember two incidents: One is about a fellow blogger who exposed the evils of the net and how it affected her daughter...
A second most recent event is my colleague asking me how to deal with his teenage son who started watching 'sexy' films in the net...
I offer no direct answer but pose another question...
we have parental controls and I tested Safety Online which gave me reports of links that are not suitable for children. This might work for little kids...but how about in adults? Do we continue with parental controls? Is it a test of 'not getting caught anyways'?
I'm pretty cautious in what I say. I do not pretend to be 'holy' and 'pure'. But when I think of the many kids under my care, it makes me think of the responsibility entailed in doing what I preach...
Again, the question posed, will parental controls do? I think proper guidance will.
I'm still searching for ways to put the message across to teenagers (adults)...how would theywe understand the consequences to their/our acts?
kk dint see the movie yet ..BUT ..its sad,, where r we heading too,,
ReplyDeleteI agree with NRIGirl!
Really sad and needs to be looked into....
DeleteThat is any parent's nightmare. Technology has its pitfalls.
ReplyDeleteand this is unfortunate that entire lot of gen-next is being affected with this....
DeleteOMG! Disgusting really. Seriously no amount of monitoring or rationing net time can stop this. Unless we instill the right values in children by helping them to bond with elders, connect spiritually(god fearing) and teaching them to respect fellow humans, values like humility, honesty etc. Today most parents with single or two children pamper them with all the goodies to compensate for the quality time they miss with their kids. Taking them to malls and exotic places will not help, though that seems to be the trend now.
ReplyDelete"right values"....something that we need most to put into this young lot...
DeleteDisturbing...
ReplyDeleteyaa, it is....:(
DeleteMy dear Irfan
ReplyDeleteYoungster's do love to weave themselves into imaginary, exotic, magical and romantic personalities - the stuff that dreams are made of ! The internet provides them with a convenient canvas for their creativity. Let them live their dreams !
Yes sometimes this canvas is also misused for cyber crimes as with all other technological developments !
hello Sir,
Deletei think cyber crime is entirely different thing from what we are talking about here.....moreover its not at all advisable to carry those stuff(you mentioned sir) in such a way which in the long run may ruin their entire personality.....thats how i feel...:)
Oh yes.. meeting chatting online very dangerous , there was a English movie with Clive Owen I have forgotten the name that shows the real danger..
ReplyDeletePeople actually groom kids for exploiting them..
I personally have had to handle one of this scenario , its a dirty bad evil world out there.. you will be surprised what people do in the dark of their own room...
yes, the way we groom our kids means a lot in what they do afterwards....so one must be careful in parenting, though its not that easy....
DeleteSame thoughts ran through my mind when I had watched this short movie a couple of months ago.. Where are we heading to???
ReplyDeleteyaa, the movie does make us to think at least for a moment....
DeleteIrfanuddin,
ReplyDeleteTHANKS. I watched the movie. While we progress we tend to overlook negative points of that. Technology has come of age and surely helps in many ways to solve a lot of problems but the negative side is generally overlooked though it is very dark at times. There are many reasons to use pseudo name while on internet. Even I use pen name while blogging as I do not wish to compromise identity of those about whom I write at times but when time comes I do tell my actual identity to my fellow bloggers who get in touch by mail and request them to keep it to themselves. Timely caution on parenting. If parents are more of a friend to child after certain age, such situation can generally be avoided as the child would confide in either parent about what is going on.
Take care
well Jack Saheb, i don't see any harm in using a pen name unless things are getting personal.....and yes parenting can play a major in solving this sort of problem which this particular movie has raised....
DeleteVery Sad.... But,I believe that with the rapid rise in the use and accessibility of Internet it is impossible to generalize the individual users for its proper usage.Usage of Internet, Social Networking Sites or any other modern technology depends on how user participate in the Online activities. The manners, attitudes they have and the purpose they intend to use the sites.
ReplyDeleteyou said everything so nicely here Zahid, yes....its all about the purpose one intend to use these social networking sites.....
DeleteBTW glad to have you here after decades....i remember you happened to be my 1st reader when i started blogging....:))
Thanks Irfan bhai....I was busy with some professional commitments so couldn't post my views....But, must say that all your posts are very well written and more importantly thought provoking....I will definitely come back to read more of yours useful information....Carry on the Fantastic work!!!!
Deletewill, look forward to have you again here Zahid...thank you.
DeleteI too shocked reading it! But I have heard such thing earlier... I agree with you, we are living a fake life in funky names. Certainly its fun up to a limit but meeting someone in real must get reveal truly.
ReplyDeleteI watched the video... it’s an excellent one and message and really sweet! Thanks for sharing.
yes, there is nothing wrong going with funky names as long as its virtual but once you are going into real world one must reveal his identity honestly.....moreover in this particular movie its the parenting which is given priority......
DeleteThank you.
Hello.
ReplyDeleteI am not a parent, but even I was disturbed by this video. Today's parents really have no idea what their children are getting up to on on the internet. There was a story here on the news not so long ago about a missing teenager whose internet activities have only just come to light...she had been chatting to a much older man and actually left to go meet with him and has not been heard of or seen since. No one knew she was talking to this man online.
We all love the ease and convenience of computers and technology, but there is a darker side to some of the people behind those screen names and I can only see the problem getting worse.
Thought-provoking post and an eye-opener for sure. Thanks for sharing, Irfan Sir.
Love's Zinfandel
thank you for this wonderful comment Andy saheb....:)
DeleteOur virtual life n virtual identities have become so powerful that they sometime overpower our real identity too...
ReplyDeleteand this is not something very good....:
Deletecouldnt see the movie..we can change the scenario thru only by spending time with our children and teaching them moral values.
ReplyDeleteyes, these two are the key factors to avoid such scenario....
DeleteI knew it was coming the moment I started reading your post.
ReplyDeleteTimes have changed. We have lost our basic values
and we desperately need those values back into our life now....Thank you.
DeleteYour articles are always very good, touchy and thought provoking. It is the duty of parents to check their childern after providing them internet facility, spend time with them and tell them our values, otherwise we are going to ruin.
ReplyDeletethanks for the visit leo...and yes parents have to watchful n friendly with these kids now....
Delete..an important lesson in today's world...
ReplyDeleteyes, it is...thank you ashok.
DeleteShocked indeed ! I am reminded of a bolllywood song - Parda utha de mukhda dikha de , tu mere dil ka dikhda mita de . Howver the climax or the anti climax comes in the last stanza, when the romantic hero has to sing- parda gira de, mukhda chhupa de, bhagun kidhar se rasta bataa de !
ReplyDeleteSpeaks volumes for where we are heading !
aur filhaal koi sahi rastaa dikhtaa nahi hai....:(
DeleteTHank you....!
This is a disturbing trend....sadly we are getting all kinds of unusual shocking news these days...
ReplyDeleteand i personally feel that all these ill-happenings are just because somehow these youths are not being taught the moral n values of life and every parent must into it....
DeleteYes, this is quite possible -the way we live our lives these days. I had seen a film long back called "Mitr My friend" where a husband and wife who are having trouble with each other start chatting on the internet with a stranger until they realize that the person they were chatting with was their husband/wife. They were shocked because the way they were communicating on the net was so very different from how they were communicated in person!
ReplyDeleteand this shows how smartly people can mange to live with split personalities that even the husband/wife are not able to know the truth.....
DeleteA similar recent episode resulted in a suicide in Bangalore..an awakening is a must for today's youth.
ReplyDeletelets hope n pray that this awakening comes sooner now....inshaa allah..!!
Deleteya it is quite a disturbing trend boss..meaningful post:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Sir ji... :)
DeleteAstonishing and conveys an important message! Many thanks for this post!
ReplyDeleteCheers :)
thanks for the visit Dilip...:)
Deletevery thought provoking yes
ReplyDeleteThanks magiceye...!!
DeleteBlaming the technology and not taking charge of own life are the easiest excuses! It is like reinventing the story of 'forbidden fruit' and still yearning to have one!
ReplyDeletewell said Sir...:)
DeleteThank you...!
Things happening around us today are enough to turn our stomach. This is one such, that's all. The media and the movies are adding to the frenzy of new 'experiences' with such disastrous results.
ReplyDeletethats very true, media n movies are really forcing this generation to live a life filled with fantasies....and this is really sad.
Deletethank you.
Anyways Happy ramzaan ..
aur yeh waqai bahot dukhad hai.....
DeleteAameen...
and thanks for the wishes Sushant.
Ficticious names lead to the unfortunate situation.
ReplyDeleteIndustrial revolution and the IT sector has destroyed the beauty of innocence which would have been otherwise available.
Now there is a need of extra care which must be in the pipeline to avoid such mishaps gain.
Irfan bhai thanks for shaing such an eye opener post.
"Faking is not productive always" must be clearly understood.
thanks for such an insightfull comment Tariq bhai...
Deleteand i wish people understand this soon and stop being fake.
Im actually not surprised over this.I dont know about India but out here with the modern advanced life, one wants to live, family life is non existent.Everyone is in their own world and there is no form of family bonding.Out here immediate family members seek booked appointments to meet with one another, all in the name of being too busy with work and one's own life.I rememeber there was a time when meeting up with family meant just showing up in each other's house and having fun.but Now one seeks wife's permission or husband's permission or what not excuse of kids and all.I blame it all on the ridiculous acceptance and abuse of technology and modern way of family life.
ReplyDeleteyes, indeed this is all abuse of technology n modernism taking more n more space into society and its sad....i don't know when n where it is going to stop, if at all it will.
DeleteSorry, I am writing the comment after watching the movie just for five minutes or so: I couldn't bear to watch it further knowing the denouement of the tale. People have expressed their outrage already. All I want to say is that it is tragic how the the younger generations -or even the older ones, for that matter- are turning to a false and delusional world for emotional gratifications. Excellent share and a great piece of writing.
ReplyDeleteyes, watching such things are really disturbing for any HUMAN.....and thanks for the visit sir ji, its really great to have someone like you here....thanks again..:)
Deletewell, interacting with people on internet is ok as long they reveal their genuine identity....but again one must be careful while doing so...
ReplyDeleteThank you.
