Lakhon Mein Ek - Unsung Heroes...

Issues and topics which  help eradicating social evils are always something we like to talk about because we believe it generates awareness among the mass, but the sad part is that most of us are busy 24x7 only in discussing these social evils and never ever try to put our thoughts into action.

But there are people around us who think n act differently and who don't believe in mere lip's exercise but actually dare to step aside and follow a path which is not so easy for most of us to follow. And it is unfortunate that these people have not been recognised by society as well as by the authorities for what they have done and most of them remain unsung heroes through out their life.

Even our media(print as well as visual) never bothers to let us know about these people who have made a difference to themselves and to society, perhaps our media people have no time for such causes because they are busy in following and showcasing the issues which are trending and mostly related with our celebrities. And they do this because we as viewers also have a tendency to follow n listen these celebrities, no matter how much shit they do or talk.

But about a fortnight back on 5th August, I saw the debut episode of a TV show "Lakhon Mein Ek" on Star Plus. The show is based on the true inspiring stories of real people, who are as common as we are but they don't merely talk or discuss as our celebrities do sitting in air-conditioned studios, rather these unsung heroes believe in their acts but somehow they have not been acknowledged for what they have done.

One of these unsung heroes is Akhtari Bai, whose story was shown in the first episode of the show "Lakhon Mein Ek". She is a widow from Ranchi, who makes  envelopes for her living. By selling her hand made envelopes in the local market she could hardly manage three square meal for her family and yet she never thought twice while adopting those abandoned girl children who had been thrown by their own parents. Not only did she adopted them but she raised them like her own two children and never ever differentiated them from their own children. For sure she is amongst us, she is a common human as we are, who faces same day-to-day problems like we do but her love for abandoned girl children and the sacrifices that she has been doing through out her life to raise those adopted children makes her special. Her life story is really heart touching and inspiring one.

In a society which is full of selfish people, Akhtari bai lives with a difference. I salute her and her noble deeds. But i am feeling very sorry to say that even after two weeks of the show, Akhtari Bai could not get any space in the media and no one bothered to know about her.
Is it because the show "Lakhon Mein Ek" is yet not popular as "Satyamave Jayate" was or because the anchor of the show is not someone like Amir Khan, who can make any damn show hit n popular with his stardom....??
Whatever may be, for me people like Akhtari Bai are real celebrities who are working day n night for humanity even with their minimum resources.

And BTW don't you think that all those celebrities sitting in the air-conditioned TV studios and talking big-big things about "human n humanity" should take a lesson from people like Akhtari Bai and start doing something in reality without being surrounded by TV cameras....???

  3. People like Akhtari Bai are the ones that make us hopeful about humankind. It is what differentiates humans from animals. Unfortunately as we grow "civilized" we stop exhibiting any human values. A very inspiring life and an excellent post for me to read on Monday morning!
    PS Belated wishes on Eid.

  10. .....Unfortunately media projects only netas and abhinetas and the lesser stuff hardly exists for them . People like Akhtari Bai rarely engage the attention of media. The telecast of such a program was a revelation to me !

    1. yes Sir, when it comes to promote such people who work for the humanity, media just don't do its duty, perhaps they are more interested in their TRPs....

  11. Totally agree with you! She’s doing a Nobel thing and it’s not easy though... even many do such things; the ratio is very low who work from heart without looking for fame. The media is a great tool now to create greater awareness, but they are simply wasting it almost running behind the actors and telecasting nothing but rubbish serials and reality shows.

Hope u had a good Eid at home :) Thanks for sharing.

  14. I must try to catch that program. You know, the problem is, people enjoy knowing what is happening in the celeb world. The real world, with real heroes is almost always boring. Why, we live with and experience so many unsung heroes on a daily basis. If an unknown saves a life, it is not news :-)

Good to connect, Irfan! You've got a wonderful blog!

  16. Irfanuddin,

You have very rightly brought out that most of us do only lip service. We talk a lot on issues but when time comes to get down to ground level, most of us do not find time or courage. And what you said about media is so true. My salute to her and hope we learn a lesson from her life story.

    Take care

Your post is as good as before.
Its true our mass like to watch showbizz celeb and not the real heros and our media just for more sale more profit only shows and discusses showbizz. Its is not good. Media should show the reality of real life too.

  19. I am glad u took not of such unsung heroes and I appreciate u wrote on it
I have been thinking that Aamir is getting a lot of criticism for thinking of a show like satyamev jayate and doing it and even bringing change (as was dipicted in the results). It was not mere lip service. He earned from it, but people are getting paid for a lot of wrong reasons but we hardly criticise them. while we sing of unsung heroes we can sing of much sung heroes too I guess. Maybe bringing an anchor like aamir for such shows as lakhon mein ek is the solution. But I know what u mean and I guess u are right that people are hardly bothered about issues unless a celebrity raises it.

    1. well, i don't mind anchoring any show by Amir or anyone else of those celebraties, what i mean to say here is that apart from anchoring and organising those press confrences in the lime light of TV cameras they should also try n do something in reality for eradicating social evils as people like Akhtari Bai is doing that too without having any expectations from the society...

Thanks for the read and those thoughtful words Jerly...
      plz do come again..thank you.

  20. First, Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful information. A lot is being said and spoken over and again but there are very few people who have actually taken a step to set things straight.

I truly salute the spirit of Akhtari Bai. She knows the pain of being abandoned and is helping those children to overcome that pain. Hat's off to the Lady. May God Bless her abundantly!

And yes, when celebrities profess to show an interest, people are all interested, when someone new to the camera faces the audience, we are not as excited or bothered, are we?

  21. its realy unfortunate that we simply rush behind our celebraties, no matter how much shit they talk or do...lets hope n pray that situations changes atleast for a little of us...

Thank you Ashwini for those lovely words here.

  22. There's a segment in our local news for 'heroes' ~ but I guess it will not be able to contain all of them because they could be found everywhere, every second of the day...

I do like it when you said people shouldn't be 'talking' about humanity and yet stay in their comfortable homes...it's out there waiting to be recreated by our compassion and generosity.

I truly appreciate this post. Thanks :)

    P.S. God sees... people admire...
