While watching a famous Laughter show on TV, I was thinking of my student life period, when Indian humour was best known by its "Kavi Sammalens", traditional gathering where noted Poets waxed eloquent about Social and Political issues......But things have changed now, may be because of the fact that the Politicians being corrupt is no longer a funny thing, but its pain full.....
Today Indian comedy shows are a charade, they have banal and vulgar jokes, too much impersonation and plagiarism, the semi nudes sexy looking anchors...and top on all, the Judges of the show, who laugh so hard, it seems forced.... Most claim to be funnier than they are....
It all happened may be because the audience for the humor has changed . In fact we are so advanced now that one can call a woman "sexy", without insulting her feelings.Where as earlier "sensuous" would be the correct word.
In fact the realty is, we are now in an era where Rakhi Sawant and Dolly Bindra is being ranked as icons...where our youth just gets crazy while listening "Bheege Honth Tere" and "Shiela Ki Jawani"..where every thing is valued on its TRP.....
Why can't we have a "Laughter Show" with......
Humor that makes you think?
Humor that makes you think?
Humor that provokes society to evolve?
I stand by your thoughts... such shows are quite disgusting :(
ReplyDeleteThank you Rachit...you are so quick here this time.
ReplyDeleteI was penning down an article for Weakest Link and than was working on N2MN, saw your blog update and so was here :) Nice read :)
ReplyDeletehttp://n2mn.blogspot.com/
That is why I do not watch Indian laughter show..I do not get it.
ReplyDeletehello
ReplyDeletei agree with every word. most of the time lewd jokes are aired in the name of laughter shows, i have stopped watching these demeaning shows with my family.
do not like show do not watch it
ReplyDeleteits simple we got the remote.
I completely agree .I miss good old days of Doordarshan's Hashya Kavi Sammelan and the participants like Ashok Chakradhar,Hullar Muradabadi and many other,
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day !
The less said about the comedy shows, the better. Todays shows are in very bad taste and the judges laugh as if they have consumed local 'Bhang"!Puran Singh is horrible.
ReplyDelete@A.... thank you so much.
ReplyDelete@AS.... yes...watching these shows with family n kids is really not advisable.
@sm.... thanks a lot.
@kavita.... oh yes! these ppl were just so good while performing on Doordarshan and even their humor n satire used to be a msg for the society. Thank you.
ReplyDelete@Ayyangar Sir.... well, the remote of Archana's meaning less laughters is in the drums being played at the shows i think...as loud the drums beat will be, the louder she use to laugh...really horrible... thank you Sir.
I miss the old shows too especially the Hasya Kavi Sammelans. These days there is so much double meaning that it is not suitable to watch such stuff with children.
ReplyDelete@Rachna.... watching these with children is really not advisable bcoz at times they are so vulgar and packed with indecencies... Thank you.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you .. That what we are and who we are now..
ReplyDeleteIts all so interconnected I guess its the attitude of Chalta hai, we can put it in every fieeld of life.. politics, television etc no one seems to be bothered ..
the more skin is shown the better the show .. simple rule SKIN sells :)
Bikram's
What you said is absolutely true. There are nothing but adult jokes. All comments with double meanings and vulgar gestures.
ReplyDeleteThe anchors are often semi nude.We are going international !.
I agree. All the so-called "jokes" in the Laughter shows are either pathetic or plain vulgar.
ReplyDeleteI do not watch such vulgar shows . I love watching 'News 24' and "Talk shows"
ReplyDeleteI dont hit these channels at all when there is someone laughing for no reason. They are so disgusting.
ReplyDeletereality shows. whar an irony wen d exact opposite is being presented???totally bugs me too
ReplyDeletei totally agree with you.vulgar and pathetic!
ReplyDeleteeven the humor they present contains vulgarity and the judges and viewers of these shows simply encourage it!
And in the end they call it a family show. Nonsense.
ReplyDeletealthough ur posts were about laughter shows on TV, the same can be said about movies also, can we imagine movies like Gol-mal (amol palekar), chupke chupke being made now? even dark comedy like jaane bhi do yaaron? slowly but steadily vulgarity has crept into our sense of humor.......btw i dont watch TV...:D
ReplyDelete@Bikramjeet.... yaa, JO BIKTA HAI-VOH DIKHTAA HAI Thank you Bikram.
ReplyDelete@dr.antony.... so, at least here we go international...Thank you Sir.
@Anu.... Thank you so much.
@ZEAL....and some times even these news channels make breaking news of anything...thanks a lot.

ReplyDelete@Prateek.... Thank you Prateek.
@deekay.... oh, yes! those were just awsome....and its always better not to watch these so called family shows... :)
Hey Irfan I agree with you....Today actually we adopted so Vulgarity in our life...And the media who can change the people are responsible for this....We always heard about rape case ,And killing, Murder case lot have you find the news regarding our progress or miletry progress or else our politician also become vulgar everywhere behind the name of love publicity all are serving vulgarity to the market and our children who are the future of our country learn this what can be next thinking on that I am afraid about........
ReplyDeleteAnyway your blog may reach those people and they can understand the situation and help to grow country in meaningful way........
Best of luck
Evry word written by you so true. Laughter shows started of well a fewyears back. Now, with similar shows on a number of channels and the compitition, those are gettinh vulgur by the day.
ReplyDeleteSuch shows must be taken off the air immly
Agree with you Irfaan - laughter like in Gulzars Angoor or the original Golmaal or that TV serial of eighties nukkad needs creativity and wit. When you have neither you fall back to slapstick and vulgarity. You don't have to work very hard for it.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree with you. Only yesterday I was thinking about how I just dont relate to the language these days. Even on TV channels the hindi that I hear is not the hindi that we used to hear when I was growing up. No, I am not a purist but I think the standards are going down. Remember those Hrishikesh Mukherjee films and their humour? These days I dont find any so called funny film funny...!!! Look at Gulzar - the man who wrote "Mera Kuchh Saaman" and "Tum Aa gaye ho noor aa gaya hai" is now penning "Bidi jalaile" and "Kajarare"...!!!
ReplyDeletei panic to see the laughter shows now but loved to watch DEKH BHAI DEKH, don't find one of a similar kind. the pattern to increase their TRP rate has changed a lot. i wonder how they get their rates increase by low category jokes. who are these viewers?
ReplyDelete@Harshal.... Lets hope that sense prevail n things improve...thank you.
ReplyDelete@Chowla Sir.... its not likely that these prog can go off the air in near future, just bcoz of wasted interests of the authorities. Thank you sir for coming over here again.
@Varsha.... very right..these sort of prog can be made without taking too much of pain... BTW nice to see you here after a long gap...plz do come again, Thanx.
@Meera Sundararajan.... i think Gulzar saheb is writing "Bidi jalaile" etc not bcoz he is fond of them, but more bcoz audience's taste has gone down, and he is certainly not there for social service... Thanks a lot, glad to see you here again.
ReplyDelete@fantacy in practicality.... certainly there are viewers who has devleoped the taste of these, but i think all these TRPs are manipulated.... thank you sancheeta ji for being so regular here.
very well said.
ReplyDeleteI like your post.
Thanks for your comment on my blog
@Kiran Bajaj.... welcome at my space, glad you liked it.... hope to see you again here.
ReplyDeleteIrfan! Nice to stop by after so long. I am not sure why my blogger list does not show your new posts automatically....
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on promoting real humor minus vulgarity by banning such shows.
Hello Irfan Ji,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, the vulgarity in our TV shows is on the rise. This has direct bearing on tender mind of our children who are most of the time occupied with TV shows. If this trend is continued we are definitely heading towards cultural devastation.
Hey Fatwa ppl, Shivsena, Bajrangdal, RSS,......what are you doing........watching TV......get up Idiots.
Sorry, if I have been too harsh......I hope they will also read.
NRIGirl.... even i find sometimes new posts of certain bloggers not coming into my dashboard...anyways i am glad you came here and spared time..plz keep coming same way....thank you so much.
ReplyDelete@STRANGER.... you are right if these ppl have got any sense of responsibility, they should come out and do something constructive....
ReplyDeleteBTW nice to have you here again after a gap....plz do keep visiting same way.
True ....Personally I never liked these shows has lot of double meanings...I agree with Kavitas comment.
ReplyDeleteI miss the intelligent witty humour of Ashok Chakradhar and the 'Char Laina's' of Surendar Sharma. Those Kavi Sammellans were unparallelled. And you did not even need Navjot Siddhu to drive home the humour by their unnecessary laughter- at times even before the jokes are over :)
ReplyDelete@Harman.... thanks for the visit.
ReplyDelete@Gautam.... right, people like Ashok Chakrdha, Surendra Sharma and others were just best with their humor n Satire.....and 'Sidhu'... GURU just don't mention him...i mean how can a normal man laugh like that....
ReplyDeleteBTW welcome at my space and thanks for the follow, i am honored...plz do come again... :)
These days, I have found "Taarak Mehta Ka OOlta Chashmah" worth watching with family on "SAB TV" at 20.00 hrs Monday to Friday.
ReplyDelete@STRANGER... yes you are right sir, even i found its a prog. that can be watched with every body at ur home and quite entertaining too... :)
ReplyDeleteNice post
ReplyDeleteI don`t think that rakhi sawant and dolly bindra are icons.
Nice Points raised and I completely agree with
you that humour should be presented in such way that make sense .....

Sushant Jain
