Describe in one word....

"Hello Friends, Can you describe me in one word...???"

No....No....Wait.... I am not asking you people to say a word about me, in fact this is a facebook status from one of my friend asking to describe his personality in just one word...Moreover how can I dare to expose myself by asking this here..:P

Anyways, after reading the above mentioned status question, my first reaction was, "wow. someone needs some attention now",  then I honestly tried to  pen a word about him but could not do so because the moment I was typing one particular adjective for him, there was another word coming into my mind and somehow every next word was looking more appropriate for his personality....and finally after few honest attempts, I realised that, this game of describing someone in one word may seem very easy at first look but it is not that easy in fact.

Then I started asking  some of my friends that "What is the one word that describes themselves best???"...and most of them immediately came with a single word like Honest, Modest, Talented, Faithful, Energetic etc....etc....but before I could say anything they came up with another word and so on.......and finally they were just not able to stick to one single word for themselves.

Going through the whole process I found that for anyone it is not that easy to describe himself or someone else in just one single word, because when we start analysing some one's personality as a whole then one single word is  too limiting perhaps.

BTW,  "what is that one word which describes you and define your personality......???"

  8. Positive :)

Maybe it's so difficult to describe someone with one word because we are all multi-faceted...we have many aspects, not just one.

    Enjoyed your post!

  9. Irfanuddin,

I am finally here but will not say anything more till I read at least all current posts. While catching up with what my friends have been writing it took me so long and will now surely be back tomorrow to do justice here.

  11. Really it's not so easy as it seems to be!

  12. Irfan,

I am sorry I disagree with you and others who say it is not possible to describe a person in one word. The very first word that comes to your mind about a person describes his/her personality. For example your not so nice friends thought wrong about a girl who shared a taxi...a single word that comes to my mind about them....'characterless'.

For you I would say 'Human'.

  14. Irfan Ji,
It's difficult task..because any person has many dimentions of his persenolity...so you can not define him in a singal word....but i can say for this article in single word...nice...

  21. @A : well they may be......buttttttt making such statement n using one single word after only one encounter is not something i am able to do....and there is always a possibility of 'change of opinion' after few interaction...thats what i think.

and thank you so much for feeling so about me...btw what about you??? i mean a word that define you.....

  34. Irfanuddin,

Here I am. Read all current posts. It was good poem in first attempt even if you did take a little guidance. It is need of the day that we should give responsibility to young ones, may be old guard can be advisers. While in prison, one does get time to reflect and write. May be your suggestion will reach the right persons and we will see the titles you said. Picture speaks much more than words in World Population Day. I agree with you that while performing some tasks focus should never be weakened, like driving but at times on some other tasks one may do so. In lighter vein, you could sleep through a boring lecture to mark your presence as well as catching up with sleep. Couplet at the end of Remote one was so appropriate. On this one, it may be very difficult but not impossible.

    Take care

  39. hey hi.. firstly i would like say that u really simplify all this blog writing... u take a simple topic and write so well without flaunting any heavy words..and u simply rocks...

and I do thing that it is possible to describe some one in one word although people have variety of things in them but still there is one thing that is very peculiar about them and that thing describes them the best..

    ReplyDelete
  40. seems a reference was made to me here, but anyway, this much I wanna say, this blog post reminds me of one of facebook display pics that asks the readers to describe me in one word. another time I had it as a status, and will have it again soon, real soon. do continue with u interesting posts :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. While it is not difficult to describe oneself or another in one word, what may be interesting is that no two descriptions would read the same- this is because there are different sides to oneself that one exposes to the world. What I think of myself may be completely opposite to what others think of me but at the same time I am not going to let what others think of me define my own description of myself. Good post though!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well Irfanji, What do you think would the best word to describe me?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Nothing! Hehe… I’m just a ‘person’ like everyone.

I agree. Perhaps it’s impossible to describe someone in a word.

  56. Describing oneself is asking to put down one quality in you that stands out for most of the time.I still think it would be unfair to state just a single word.Im "realistic" lets say and you are (guessing from your blogs)pragmatic.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hey, It's just not possible to do this!
I mean even I can't (Never Ever for that matter) describe the people I know in a Single word. After all, We all are different every other day!
